“Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts” —Sir Winston Churchill
Jessica is President of Sherrill & Hutchins and holds the distinction of having worked in every position within the firm over the course of her tenure. “I started as a receptionist when I went back to school to obtain my degree in accounting. I had a goal of becoming a CPA and moving out west afterwards.” Along the way, she realized how much she enjoyed working directly with clients and using her love of numbers to help them work through various financial issues. This drove her decision to remain at S&H and become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner.
Jessica has experienced some of the most challenging market conditions in the firm’s history. “I have impeccable timing: I joined the firm just before the dot com bubble burst and earned my CFP® designation just as the market was about to crash in 2007. These periods illustrated how important it was to keep our clients focused on their long-term goals in order to avoid herd mentality.”
Outside of her work at S&H, Jessica has given back to the community through a variety of charitable involvements. Her most recent was being on the board of Hope-Hill Elementary Foundation. This organization provides support to Hope-Hill Elementary, a public school for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students primarily from low-income and at-risk situations. She continues to be an ardent supporter of local charities who serve at-risk populations.
Jessica and her husband Garrett enjoy visiting and supporting the local breweries that make up the successful craft beer scene in Atlanta. “I did not know much about the culture and history surrounding beer until I visited Belgium. The science and art of the brewing is really fascinating.” They enjoy breweries so much they were married at Monday Night Brewing in west Atlanta in September 2016.
